On August 6 The Central Florida Refugee Ministry, directed by Fr. Gabriel Ipasu of the Anglican Mission, held the 2nd Annual Back to School Celebration, during which over fifty backpacks filled with school supplies were donated for the children of the ministry.

Although a beautiful picture of the ministry, handing out backpacks is far from the extent of the ministry’s work with refugees. The Central Florida Refugee Ministry exists to care for housing, employment, education, and social services as well as providing for legal, medical, and spiritual needs of the community. To better serve refugees in these ways, the following Saturday, August 13, the ministry opened its first self-standing center in Orlando. From there, Fr. Gabriel will coordinate a multifaceted outreach ministry to African Refugees.

This ministry is supported by the Anglican Mission Florida Network with New Covenant Parish Winter Springs and Resurrection, Tampa providing a majority of the materials, but spiritual support comes from throughout the Network. Fr. Gabriel works alongside Catholic Charities, DCF, and Lutheran Family Services to provide a variety of opportunities for the African Refugee Community.
